2012 Garfield Farm Museum Awards

April 24, 2012 by Daryn

“Garfield Farm Museum’s three themes of history, farming and the environment are annually celebrated by recognizing groups or individuals that share such common interests by their actions and deeds. For 24 years, these awards are to pay tribute and draw attention to the awardees and their impact on the community, region or nation.

Heritage Prairie Farm, within sight of Garfield Farm Museum on Brundige Road and Route 38, founded by Bronwyn Weaver and Robert Archibald, has demonstrated a successful model of bringing the consumer in touch with the source of their food. At the same time they have provided a market for other local food producers to get their bounty to a public that seeks more knowledge about their food. Garfield Farm Museum is pleased to give the Heritage Prairie Farm an agricultural preservation award for its work.”

  1. Yay! Thanks for the shout out! :-) Tomorrow is my third pick up-very exciting. Though I am a bit ovlmwheered-undertaking a whole share on my own (well, I do have Adam, but he’s a bit less veggiephilic than me) was a bit overzealous? My fridge (that I share with two roommates) is overflowing with greens and I’m struggling to get them all eaten, with my normal eat-out, order-in work-14-hour days lifestyle. This morning I woke up 30 minutes early to prepare my large dinner salad (three delicious types of lettuces) and brunch chard and broccoli fritatta to eat at work.We also have a hook up with other local farms that have grass finished beef, pastured poultry and eggs and fresh raw milk and cheeses. So last night at 1am, Adam and I were ordering meat, eggs and cheese for the freezer-the farmers link them up with the CSA, so next week in addition to my heaps of veggies, I’ll have steaks, eggs, chickens and cheese. I hope my roommates don’t kick me out for lack of fridge space! Thanks so much for all your help and advice-I definitely wouldn’t be eating this well if not for you!Oh, and I haven’t seen SATC yet (going tomorrow night) but I have a feeling that my life isn’t quite like theirs LOVE!

  2. Hi Josh:Judi and I live part time on Oak Shore Drive in Fall River. We are here many weekend tuhghort the year. We like supporting the local CSA movement but since there is just the two of us, and only here part of the week, a CSA share does not make much sense. We are only here usually on Fri, Sat. and Sun. I wanted to find out if you will be selling at a stand, at your home on Main Street, farmers markets or only with the CSA packages that you offer. Think Spring!Phil and Judi.
